Are you having a hard time dealing with acne and considering taking your friends advice to get rid of your breakouts and your frustrations? I need to come forward; I gave them a try and the results weren’t pretty. This is a short tale of how I made my acne worse.
Before we start naming the worse acne remedies out there, I’ll explain why I gave them a try. A few years ago I dreamed about turning 25 to see for the first time in many, many years a pimple-free complexion. I thought that 25 was way beyond puberty and that I would just magically get rid of my acne problem.
As I turned 25, the problem didn’t magically disappear and I was very disappointed and frankly, a bit depressed. My self-esteem went at the bottom of barrel and I just couldn’t make myself go through the endless and very expensive path to find an acne skin care product that would work for my skin. I believe I’ve tried just about everything that I could reach, but my budget was suffering as much as I was.
Due to my low budget, I started researching about home remedies for acne. This means a bunch of ingredients that I would rather had in my belly than on my face. So, let’s take a look at the list.
Acne Myths and Remedies I Tried!
The first was to over-wash my face. I had read somewhere that acne was caused by the dirt on your face, even though I knew this wasn’t true, I gave it a try. I thought I’ll just wash my face more frequently. The end result: The pimples that I already had become irritated and my skin looked and felt very dry. Very uncomfortable and very unsightly.
The second attempt was to stay away from fatty foods such as pizza and chocolate. I did, for 1 entire month. Although I must say I lost a few pounds, I didn’t see any real improvement in my skin condition. A healthy diet can help you feel and look better, but it’s not a remedy for acne. I now have made Friday, Pizza Friday!
I also tried to ‘dry-up’ my pimples with lemon juice. It consisted in slightly soaking a cotton stick with fresh lemon juice (squeezed), dabbing the acne lesions and keeping it over-night. This is supposed to help to reduce swelling, redness and of course get rid of acne. The problem with this ‘treatment’ was that you got a stinging sensation when applied and that my acne got really irritated. Sigh…
To sum this up, I didn’t write this to upset you or to not get your hopes up. It is rather to warn people about taking advice from friends about remedies that are supposed to help you get rid of acne. And the good news is that my search is finally over, I found a natural product that didn’t dry out, grease out or aggravate my acne. I get a pimple now and then, but most of the time my complexion is clear and I feel so much better!
The best way to prevent and control your acne is to find a proper acne skin care product for your skin type. Don’t lose hope because there are products for you. Let the search begin!
