In treating and preventing acne, theres actually a long list of vitamins and minerals that you should take everyday. But none are more important than Vitamin A for acne prevention and treatment.

This nutrient is most well-known for keeping our vision healthy, but doctors have already found that this it also prevents and cures acne. It is necessary to convert the fatty acids in our blood stream into normal and healthy oil in our sebaceous gland. Healthy sebaceous oil flows smoothly out into the pores of our skin and provides a thin layer of protection. Healthy sebaceous oil does not trap dead skin cells, dirt or bacteria.

HOWEVER, Vitamin A on its own cannot convert itself into useful and non-toxic forms. Our bodies need Vitamin B-2 or Riboflavin to do the job of converting A.

For those who dont know, Vitamin A in nature actually comes in 3 different forms. One form actually becomes toxic when it accumulates in significant quantities in our bodies. For that matter, all forms of nutrient A need to be converted into different forms to be useful in different parts of the body. Vitamin B-2, at all times, is the essential co-enzyme factor that works in the liver to properly convert Vitamin A.

The Tango of The Two Vitamins for Acne

When you dont take enough B-2 in your diet, no matter how much A supplements you take, acne-free clear skin will still be the stuff of your dreams. You could even poison yourself simply by taking too much Vitamin A, without taking enough B-2.

This delicate dance between the two vitamins is most apparent in producing rhodopsin and retinene for healthy eyesight. Rhodopsin and retinene are the chemicals that allow you to see at night time and in dim lighting conditions. Different studies have been established that even when you take in sufficient amounts of Vitamin A, night blindness can still occur if theres a deficiency in Vitamin B-2.

Vitamin A and Vitamin B-12 For Acne: The Baboon Experiment

In an experiment a group of baboons were once place on a diet that had all the essential vitamins and minerals except for Vitamin B-2. Within six (6) months on the diet, the baboons faces were covered by a mass of skin eruptions similar to acne breakouts in teenagers.

The skin problems occurred despite the fact that the animals had plenty of Vitamin A in their diets. The skin lesions disappeared shortly after large doses of Vitamin B-2 was administered to treat the deficiency.

For Acne: How much B-2 Per A?

Dr. Robert Preston, in his report Acne- How to Prevent and Overcome Acne Forever recommends a 100:1 proportion of A to B. For the average case of acne, Dr. Preston recommends 50,000 IU of Vitamin A and 500 mg everyday of Vitamin B2 Riboflavin. People with extreme cases of acne could take double the dose.
